Exploring hidden Paths in Cospicua

The dim light was enough to expose the passage of time over the walls that surround this city. As I walked through the narrow paths I could sense how delicately light placed itself upon the subjects, like actors on stage flaring for their moments of glory. Then I asked myself, when was it that this place enjoyed its moments, or if it still enjoys its fame today.

An arts exhibition using photography as the key medium to express the deceptive absence of light and thus giving the opportunity to the viewer to have the close sensation of darkness. In these exhibits I wanted to focus on the effects of nightfall in Cospicua making use of the available lighting as much as possible to elicit a sensation of serenity and expectation.

The importance of this city had started since Neolithic times and continued through the presence of the Knights of Malta where it was declared Citta Cospicua by Grand Master Marc’Antonio Zondadari.

“Shadows of the Past” is an expression of a city that survived through time, keeping the uninhabited dwellings and closed doors at the center of attention to proclaim their past through night time. I could not fail to notice the amount of steps the city enjoys, stairways that could lead you in the city or away from its history, it is up to the viewer to choose, and I hope that this exhibition helps into leading the viewer in the city and enjoy its magnificence.

All 12 exhibits are in Black and white and will be available for viewing from the 28th of March till the end of July 2010 on Saturdays and Sundays only between 10:00am and 12:00pm or by appointment on info@birmula.com. You can also visit the exhibition any day during the Holy Week.

Special time only during the Holy Week

Sunday 28th March: 10.00 am – 12.00 pm
Thursday 1st April: 8.00 pm – 10.00 pm
Friday 2nd April: 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm
Sunday 4th April: 9.00 am – 11.00 am

This photographic exhibition will be inaugurated by his Excellency Dr. Ugo Mifsud Bonnici in an official opening at the Bir Mula Heritage, 79 St. Margaret Street, Bormla.

Tell Me Why

“All’s well that ends well”

The Notte Bianca 2009 event was a definite success with so many visitors both local and foreign. I would like to thank all those who visited my exhibit “Reflections”. It is always very satisfying to see the appreciation of the viewers and also inherit their most welcomed feedback.

“Reflections” is a collection of photographs depicting the reality of a reflection in a mirror, a puddle of water, a spoon, compared with the reflection of our lives that takes the form of meditation or contemplation. The two merged together to give the viewer a wider perspective of those moments in life where we are alone, just you and yourself.

I would like to thank the organizers of the Notte Bianca event that has given life to the city of Valletta and once again proved to be a success.

Nature and Thought, the past

Listening to the ticking sound of an old clock, resting on a table now empty, wondering on thy past. Sensing the smell of a pie who’s creator rests within the world of dreams. Beside me on this table, carved with with a knife called time, rests a bunch of apples, as small as a bunch of wild berries, which in Maltese we call a “Merh”.

The window, wide open letting the cool breeze inside, helping my pencil through its scribbling symphony, wondering what else to draw, wishing no end for this timeless moment.

Visiting Valletta

All right so it’s a sunny day and it turns out to be one after a detrimental four day long foggy type of weather which does not permit you to see up to a distance of a few kilometers (Maybe I am too sarcastic here). So together with my wife we decided to make a visit to the old city and enjoy the sun there and chilling out. Grabbed the Cam and off we went.
