“Shadows of the Past”

Exploring hidden Paths in Cospicua

The official opening held at the Bir Mula Heritage in Cospicua on the 26th of March launched not only a collection of twelve black and white images depicting Cospicua at night but also a story of how the past of every one of us has an effect on our surroundings.

His excellency Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici made an official opening followed by Kevin Casha, who both gave their point of view from different perspectives.

I would like to thank amongst all Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, Kevin for his openness and positive critique, Godwin Darmanin for promoting and handling the organizational process before the opening, John Vella for hosting this exhibition at the Bir Mula Heritage, and last but not least My wife for her patience.

The exhibition will be available for viewing till the end of July. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM till 12:00 PM or by appointment on info@birmula.com.

This is the video taken during the exhibition thanks to Christopher Bugeja.

Reflecting the past

For another year the Notte Bianca 2009 event will be held in Valletta on the 3rd of October, all through the night till early morning.  The event will give an opportunity to the local artists to portray their works and share their inspirations with the general public.  On this event most cultural and historical places will be open for public including the Casino Maltese originally called “Casa Del Commun Tesoro”, meaning the house of the national treasury.

Once again this year I will be exhibiting some of my photographic work at the Casino Maltese in Republic Street Valletta.  Item 44 on the official Notte Bianca 2009 program is the exhibition “Reflections”, between reality and thought.  An exhibition that brings together common reflections with ones that occur through meditation and thought.

You can visit the exhibition from 18:00 to 02:00.

Another exhibition that is currently on display “La Capitale In Chiaroscuro” will also be open for public at the Trattoria Omerta. Twenty one images, in black and white, all about the capital city of Malta, Valletta.  For further information about this exhibition please click here.

Your visit to the exhibition would be highly appreciated.

A photographic exhibition about the hidden treasures of Valletta.

All 21 photographs in this exhibition focus on the areas in Valletta that are usually full of activity and hectic during the day but calm down during the night. And here is where the magnificence of this city lushes out in silence. When I was a kid I used to run from one street to another with my grandparents and wondered who had ever built such a fortress, such a place that looked boundless to me those days.

During most of my visits to this city I discovered her hidden secrets of the past, the strongholds that kept Valletta what it is today. In due course I also discovered that time has not spared her lusciousness, her strength, and there is where I wanted to contribute. I wanted to bring out what many might ignore during the day, the architecture that has survived several years, the many facets that the city still enjoys.

The exhibition is being held at:

Omerta Trattoria & Wine Bar

92, Old Bakery Street,

Valletta

Technorati Profile

Was it a dream, I ask and now that I think of it, am I awaken or am I dreaming of being awaken, and thus eluding myself of being awake, eluding myself into a world of surrealism. I realized that my strengths were also my weaknesses and beliefs were also my un-answered questions. I found out that the cliff that held the bastions has now crumbled down like a wall of sand. I find out that the tree I once looked at, so strong and resilient is now nothing more than a petal, so fragile so frail. It was like a storm building up far out at sea but then turning out to be a ripple in a fish tank. Does it make sense to fall back in the dream and start all over again or is it better to grief and live an awaken existence?

Chained to old Beliefs

I was inspired by the aroma of coffee. The taste, the moment of sipping this cup slowly……

Watching the boiling fumes of this cup of coffee I thought how much the price changes from location to another. At the Malta International Airport it costed me EUR 1.75, a coffee from a renowned hotel in sliema costed me EUR 1.60 and a coffee from Zurrieq just down to the blue grotto tourist attraction costed me EUR 0.60c. So now I ask myself what was the difference, maybe it is the bean, or the milk, or could it have been the water, or maybe the whole mixture, or could it have been the way it was presented or the location, and so on and so on, I continued to contemplate why………
