Open Your Eyes and See

The weather was perfect, the sun was just right and the clouds were nice and moving fast, so it was just the perfect mix for some time-lapse.  This time I decided to head towards the fortifications in the Grand harbour in Malta.  I headed towards Isla where down by the sea I could get a good close view of the grandeur of these fortifications.  Whilst creating this time-lapse I could not miss the great architectural feat of creating such invincible structures.

I was also lucky enough to get some nice movement by ships and boats in the harbour.

I came back here to see you after all this time, only to find the sand you may have played upon and nothing more than the infinity of the sea beforth me.  With a handful of excuses in my pocket I remain silent, for nowhere to be seen is your soft skinned face, your smile, that I have never seen.

My second pocket holding another handful of plans and wishes that now fly away like the sand I rest upon.

Questions that roll through my mind like these waves upon the beach, unable to bring with them reasons why your presence today is not here.  I cry softly even though I know that I can lay a thousand rivers,   your presence will not be seen.  So I rest alone on this sandy beach, wondering how you would have been if you would have made it to this world.

I have been experimenting with shutter speed and filters recently alone in the dark on the roof with some nice lightnings over my head.

Weather changes abruptly so I had to fix the aperture continuously. Although it was cold and chilly I assumed it was not risky, after all there were other nodes to strike :-) There again it was worth all the risk if so.

Lake Ledro view of a typical morning.

Early morning, no coffee yet, and a brisk walk towards the lake from the hotel through a carpet of dry leafs.  The sun was not yet visible for the mountains are too high to uncover the warmth for that day, at least not yet.  The silence was immaculate and the lake was a clear liquid mirror accept for those slight moments of trout beneath the surface.  I could almost hear the echo of my shutter resound on the other side of the lake.

The lake was real calm and the reflection was so vivid.

The gods high up in the skies veiling upon us down here, overlooking what the mountains hide.  up there almost unreachable prepared to unleash their powers upon the mortals.  The lake un-rippled, calm, mirroring the parallels of the surrounding, until a scavenger crosses right through creating waves that formed the V formation like that  of migrating birds.   Light is still faint but enough to create those different shades in relation to the distance from my self, almost like our lives where at times things don’t seem so clear, others where everything seems to fall in place.

This hut is a recreation of the typical inhabitants of Valle Di Ledro, I tried to take myslef away from today and imagine how it might have been back then.

Whilst walking west I realised how well maintained this place is, and how people here live in contact with nature with all the comforts without damaging her equilibrium.  The day before this we walked the whole perimeter of the lake bringing nothing more than sore legs but a hell of experience and appreciation.

The intensity of light is now evident and that gives me nothing more than a sign that one of the tips of the mountains should turn orange shortly and start enjoying the first heat of dear sol.  Waiting for the right moment I positioned myself close to the lake to get a glimpse of the mountains reflected in the lake but some bastard just found the great idea to come fish exactly where the reflection was just perfect.

Reflecting the past

For another year the Notte Bianca 2009 event will be held in Valletta on the 3rd of October, all through the night till early morning.  The event will give an opportunity to the local artists to portray their works and share their inspirations with the general public.  On this event most cultural and historical places will be open for public including the Casino Maltese originally called “Casa Del Commun Tesoro”, meaning the house of the national treasury.

Once again this year I will be exhibiting some of my photographic work at the Casino Maltese in Republic Street Valletta.  Item 44 on the official Notte Bianca 2009 program is the exhibition “Reflections”, between reality and thought.  An exhibition that brings together common reflections with ones that occur through meditation and thought.

You can visit the exhibition from 18:00 to 02:00.

Another exhibition that is currently on display “La Capitale In Chiaroscuro” will also be open for public at the Trattoria Omerta. Twenty one images, in black and white, all about the capital city of Malta, Valletta.  For further information about this exhibition please click here.

Your visit to the exhibition would be highly appreciated.
